SWOSPHA Leads National Celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025

Theme: “Revitalization and the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Workplace Safety”
Mogadishu, Somalia – April 28, 2025 — The Somali workplace safety and health professional Association (SWOSPHA) marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 with a high-level national event under the theme: “Revitalization and the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Workplace Safety.” The gathering underscored Somalia’s growing commitment to improving occupational health and safety across all sectors.
The event brought together a diverse and influential audience, including occupational safety professionals, labor union leaders, private sector employers, academic experts, and senior officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health.
Participants explored how emerging technologies—particularly artificial intelligence (AI)—are reshaping workplace safety strategies. Discussions centered on the application of AI in predictive analytics, hazard identification, and real-time monitoring to prevent injuries and promote healthier work environments.
“This year’s theme reflects the urgency of rethinking how we approach safety in the digital era,” said a Dr Omar Dahir. “AI offers powerful tools to not only detect risks but also to design smarter and safer workplaces. Somalia must not be left behind in this transformation.”
The conference emphasized the need to revitalize national occupational safety efforts through innovation, capacity building, and intersectoral collaboration. Speakers called for increased investment in digital training, improved regulatory frameworks, and partnerships with international institutions to build a safer and more productive labor force.
As Somalia navigates the complexities of modernization, SWOSPHA reaffirmed its role in advocating for proactive safety policies and ensuring that the health and dignity of workers remain a national priority.
